Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic resources for developing a parish nursing program by investigating the perception and needs and demand of parish nursing services.
Methods: Subjects of this study were 287 people conveniently for local protestant churches in Busan, South Korea. Research tools used for this study were modified version of the one composed by Hwang(2000), referring to parish nurse program questionnaire by Djupe(1990).
Results: The Perception of parish nursing service of subjects was very low, but needs and demand on parish nursing services was very high. Most of them were expecting parish nurse s roles that are health-related counseling, health education, blood pressure measurement, referring to volunteers, health care of pastors, and weight management(obesity).
Conclusion: It is necessary to development the health care program, including the active promotion of awareness parish nursing, and health counseling and education for pastors, as well as congregation when planning the parish nursing service in local church.
